TRIR Fashion Showroom - Part 2

Walking along Hoxton high street on a Saturday afternoon is like taking a detour into the adventures of Alice in Wonderland. If you hold no expectations of what you’re hoping to find, then you will undoubtedly come across a few pleasant surprises. The writers and designers alike are huddled into cafes carefully curated to their tastes and, if you walk slow enough, you will notice the alley that breaks the road to lead to an enchanting art exhibition. But that’s not where we’re going today.

Our stop is the shop - if you can call it a shop? Maybe it’s another gallery, waiting for my arrival at the end of the road.

Once I got to the showroom I had to call Tacha to make sure I wasn’t about to walk into an all day house party. Though the environment seemed so alive that I was tempted to storm in regardless of an invite.

Thankfully this was the right venue for the London based designers that make TRIR (The Rum is Red). Last week was their second fashion showcase in Hoxton.

I was greeted by a group of bloggers as I entered the showroom, alongside photographers, models and of course the designers themselves. Josh, Diogo, Jack and Yuval, they started the label four years ago with the ambition catering to an 'everyday kickback look' while maintaining a premium feel.

The excitement in the air was electric as everything was being put together for people passing by, the level of attention to detail the team had towards this event makes the dedication to their craft evident.

“This wasn’t the brand’s original name”, recalled Josh as I asked him how the team came up with ‘The Rum is Red’ for a brand name. “We had to change the name after releasing another brand had a very similar label. So we started googling inspiration for alternatives, then one of guys played Lil Wayne ‘Red Rum’. We stopped to listen to the songs lyrics, and that was it! TRIR was born”.

I have to admire the drive these designers have to put something so authentic on the market. While there are so many designers trying to push Lady Gaga creations onto the rich and famous, there’s this group of men, who just want everyone to be truly comfortable in their skin, no pretence or posing necessary. To the extent that when the models start posing for a photoshoot during the showcase they’re told not to, just to talk and laugh amongst themselves. Hilariously, I’m given the responsibility of making them laugh to keep the energy going - queuing ‘why did the chicken cross the road?’ jokes.

As the day lost it's light to the night a guitarist showed up to carry us through the evening. At this point the showcase was crowded with locals drinking and laughing between puffing on a Benson & Hedges outside of the entrance.

Overall, it was a successful showcase. If you want to see more details about TRIR you can look at the gallery Tacha posted on the gallery earlier this week, or visit their website.
