Art of Word

I have a confession to make. When asking Massiah, a poet and photographer based in London, how she would spend her time if she only had to work three hours every weekday, I decided to stir things up a little.

I’m not sorry I did it.

Massiah Abraham Begashaw, a London based poet and photographer, stands out as a woman of extraordinary talent. Having been struck by her photography skills, I had to find out more about the artist behind the camera.

So how exactly did I stir the question? Well, ask yourself this, how would you spend your time if you had a three hour work week?

That kind of freedom may not seem humanly possible, but with nothing holding you back, how far would you go?

A typical day in the life of Massiah Abraham Begashaw, no boundaries applied, would look something like this:

“ My ideal day would start early. Say, 5am. I would water my plant, feed my owl, then have some breakfast myself. At around 6 o’clock I would catch a shuttle circling between Venus and Saturn for a live galactic exhibition. I’d take the highest window seat, snap photos through the panoramic windows whilst listening to Hindi music. At 2pm I’d go back home to write new poetry pieces for a few hours.

“During sunset, I would sit on the balcony with my owl to watch an art display in the sky. For the rest of the evening I would plan my trip to Lalibela for the next day then drift to sleep mid-meditation.”

So, galactic exhibitions and quality time with the owl is what would be on the cards for Massiah, and her exciting three hour adventures have left me feeling inspired. Working less hours may be an unrealistic prospect for many of us, myself included, but the purpose of this is to push our boundaries. I asked Massiah to consider my question without any limits because I wanted her to go beyond her daily comforts, and really, isn’t that what we should all be doing? Having a job is essential, but having something, whether that is our job or a hobby, that pushes us to find ourselves is equally as important!

Forget limits or boundaries and find a way to get close to whatever your aspirations are in life. A quote from Suits comes to to mind as I wrap this up ( FWI epic show if you’re yet to watch it) Harvey once said, “I don’t have dreams, I have goals”.
